In 1958, Ed Kerner looked over the land
he owned off Reese Rd. He noticed that
there were certain similarities between
the land before him and the contours of
a golf course. He loved to play golf,
but instead of playing that day. He
decided to build a golf course. It
took 5 years to complete the first nine
holes, which opened in 1962 to the
public. But that wasn't enough. He
dreamed again, this time of enlarging
the course to 18 holes.
In 1964, after almost being discouraged
because he couldn't obtain the
property, he finally purchased the
property and two years later (in 1966)
Gospel Hill was a full fledged golf
course.
The front side of Gospel Hill is short,
2,252 yards. The back nine, 3,325 yrds.
It's like playing two different golf
courses. Ed Kerner died in December of
1969. But he lived long enough to see
his dream come true
